Single Sign-On "Roaming Session" and Remote Access Solutions Highlight Innovative Netilla Healthcare Solutions at HIMSS '04

Netilla CEO Reggie Best to Deliver Presentation on SSL VPN Benefits for Healthcare Providers (HIMSS Education Session #83, 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24)

HIMSS 2004 - Orlando, Feb. 23, 2004 - Netilla Networks, Inc. will showcase here at HIMSS a full range of SSL VPN and secure application access management solutions that are designed to make clinical applications and data immediately and easily accessible to physicians and other authorized users. Solutions on display from Netilla and its healthcare partners enable patient records to be accessed from anywhere within the hospital or remotely via standard Web browsers, while satisfying HIPAA privacy mandates - while enabling patients to surf the Web and send email with the convenience of a bedside terminal.

Netilla Networks president and CEO Reggie Best will co-deliver a HIMSS education session on how healthcare providers can benefit from adopting SSL VPN technology to make their legacy applications accessible from anywhere. "SSL-Based VPNs: Feeling Secure" (HIMSS Education Session 83, Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 1:00 p.m.) will also feature co-presenter Thomas Pacek, assistant vice president of technology at Virtua Health, describing the lessons learned when the hospital system deployed an SSL VPN.

At its HIMSS exhibit (#3472), Netilla Networks and its technology partner HealthCast LLC (also exhibiting at #6030) will demonstrate an innovative single sign-on (SSO) and roaming session solution that lets on-the-go clinicians who have a session open on one workstation effectively suspend that session by a simple mouse click or timeout, visit a patient, and then continue their work at a different workstation anywhere in the hospital enterprise. In addition, remote physicians can also access the single sign-on solution to any of their hospital applications through a browser via Netilla's SSL VPN.

The Netilla booth will also showcase the PatienTree bedside terminal system, an innovative touch screen terminal that does "double duty" by serving as an information portal for both patients and their physicians. Physicians can use the PatienTree system for bedside access to a wealth of clinical data made available via the Netilla Security Platform. But patients can also use the easy-to-use touch screen system to surf the Web, send and receive emails and view cable TV and on-demand video.

Netilla will also unveil at HIMSS Release 4.2 of its dynaTRUST policy-enforcement operating system, featuring advanced client-integrity features such as malware detection to insulate a healthcare provider's enterprise network from worms, viruses and other network threats that could occur when remote PC's outside enterprise control try to access the network (See separate announcement today on dynaTRUST Release 4.2).

"Many hospitals are turning to SSL VPNs as a cost-effective, easy to use and secure technology to let physicians and other nomadic users access clinical applications from anywhere," said Bryan Bain, vice president of marketing and corporate development at Netilla. "But because Netilla views SSL VPNs simply as the precursor to secure application access management, we can offer healthcare providers two unique advantages: the ability to access virtually any application (not just Web applications), and the capability to enforce security policies before granting access to any user - remotely or onsite."

"We are pleased to join Netilla in their dynaTRUST Alliance Partner Program to offer off-site physicians the convenience of secure single sign-on to their hospital applications through a browser", said Joan Mehn, HealthCast's CEO. "As well, physicians will realize the power of 'roaming sessions' within the hospital enterprise, which is a major workflow improvement. Our solutions speed up and simplify the process of accessing critical patient information from disparate sources, while increasing security and user convenience."

The Netilla Security Platform provides browser-based secure access to virtually any application (whether Windows-, UNIX-, Linux- or even mainframe-based), with fine-grained access control that restricts each user to only those applications he or she is permitted to use.

Working together, Netilla and HealthCast can now offer physicians access to their hospital applications remotely through a browser with one secure single sign-on process; and, from within the hospital enterprise, offer roaming sessions that meet the real-life needs of busy physicians. While they typically need to access or enter data into numerous PCs, bedside terminals and other devices as they make their rounds, busy physicians do not have the time to log in and begin a new session with each device.
